I remember when my mom started bringing home crystals in the late 70’s. I’d never seen one before. She started to explain that crystals have an energy of their own and were used by the Ancient Egyptians for healing and protection and many of their jewelry pieces included lapis, turquoise, clear quartz, malachite and many other stones.
I was about 17 years old, it was the 70’s, and like every teenager I rolled my eyes. I had THAT mother who had a collection of crystals in her copper pyramid where she regularly would sit in silence and meditate.
It wasn’t until my 20’s that I started to fall in love with crystals. I would get these pieces of crystal jewelry, wear it like an obsession and then suddenly it was no longer relevant. It had done its job. I never truly understood the healing qualities behind each stone at the time, but knew when I was drawn to a particular stone.
For instance, I have a piece of lapis that I never took off around my neck. I’ve come to understand that lapis is all about the throat chakra, creativity, and encourages one to speak the truth. During this time in my life, I was embarking on a career as an actor. My voice was one of my most powerful instruments. It’s no wonder I was drawn to lapis.
Later on, I could not put down rose quartz. In my 30’s I was struggling with relationships, my emotional health and to find my way in the world. It’s no coincidence that rose quartz is the stone of Universal Love and helps in aiding the heart chakra and inspires self-love, trust and forgiveness.
My latest crystal (s), are amethyst and spheres. Jeff and I have a piece of amethyst on our perspective nightstands and a large amethyst in our living room. Its no coincidence that amethyst helps to relieve stress, anxiety and opens up our spiritual awareness and psychic abilities. Something that Jeff and I discuss on a regular basis. It truly supports us to have a relaxed and easy night’s sleep while working on our adrenals and endocrine system.
We only have one sphere, but suddenly I’m drawn to this shape of crystal. I discovered even the shapes of crystals have different meanings and elements. Crystal spheres allow energy to emit in all directions. The perfect symmetry of a sphere brings balance, peace, and relaxing energies into its environment. Meditating with a sphere provides a deep sense of wholeness, as if you hold the world in the palm of your hand.
No matter whether you believe in the energy of crystals or not, you might find yourself in a better mood, or drawn to certain colors or shapes. Try playing with the energy of crystals for yourself and pay attention to how you feel. You never know what kind of magic might unfold!
